Buffer, Inc officially releases Buffer for iPhone

With today’s updated iPhone app, the team at Buffer has officially announced their support for the iPhone device. This helps round out platforms that support the service. Buffer’s blog states “The great thing is that we have completed our full range of mobile products with the iPhone App. Our Android App, that has been out for a few months, has received some great responses, sending close to 15,000 updates every day.” (source)

Buffer allows you to schedule tweets for release at certain times of the day so you don’t flood your followers at any point. It was great if you were browsing the web and working at a computer. However, if you were working or reading on your iphone or ipad, it was not as easy to schedule and manage your buffered tweets from those devices.

iPhone Keyboard From ThinkGeek

One of THE biggest challenges with using the iPhone is trying to type messages quickly on the virtual keyboard.

For those of us coming from a Blackberry that has always been a struggle.

It appears as though the fine folks over at ThinkGeek have come up with the answer to our prayers. Introducing the aptly named TK-421.

The TK-421 serves as both a flip-out keyboard and case for both the iPhone 3GS and the 4.

I’m liking the QWERTY keyboard and the flip movement of this device. Initially when I saw it in the ThinkGeek catalog I thought it would be huge and bulky, but check out the video below – as long as that keyboard clicking is there, this device looks like a sure winner.

For $49.99 this would make a dandy Christmas gift for that special geek in your life.

DivX and Samsung Electronics recently announced at the IFA trade show that the GALAXY Tab is the world’s first DivX Certified® tablet. The Android-powered GALAXY Tab will now power DivX HD video playback at home or on the go.

Available to consumers first in Europe late September 2010 and soon after in the United States and Asia, the GALAXY Tab has a large 7-inch TFT display, which delivers an unrivaled screen quality for a better viewing experience. Weighing in at only .84 pounds (380g), it includes 16 GB or 32GB of internal storage and 32 GB MicroSD expansion.

The GALAXY Tab features a TouchWIZ user interface, WiFi, GPS, rear and front facing cameras and also acts as a mobile phone. In addition, as an Android-powered device, the GALAXY Tab provides access to various applications from Android Market.

Motorola Droid X Review

In just 3 days the long awaited Motorola Droid X will be released. The Droid X is Evo competition for those that prefer the Verizon network, and iPhone 4 competition for those that refuse to switch to AT&T (or want to leave AT&T). Well, all comparisons aside, the Droid X can definitely hold it’s own against the competition. The full featured sexy device boasts many features that some did not think would be in a smart phone for quite a while.

From the 8mp camera to the 720p HD video recording capabilities, the multimedia features make this phone stand out from the rest. Couple that with super fast response times, full featured email, and several apps available to complete just about any task that you might need and the Droid X may convince you to leave your laptop AND netbook at home.

I was lucky enough to receive a Droid X from Verizon for review a couple of weeks ago. I have really enjoyed using this device. I know that my iPhone 3Gs has been jealous.

iPhone App Video Podcast

Macgasm, a pretty neat technology website that focuses on all things Apple recently did a video podcast reviewing jailbroken iPhones, Mophie Juice Packs and using Facebook Chat on the iPhone. Three great topics, what is even better about this episode – they had a special guest host who is one of my favorite webpreneurs…Erin Blaskie !

I, personally, use the PowerSlider from inCase for my iPhone and have similar pros and cons as mentioned in the show segment. I get great battery life, but do have noticeably lower cellular signal reception when the battery is plugged in.

Jailbroken iPhones…that’s the only way to go! I’ve done it ever since the capability has been possible and have no moral dilemma with that fact. Take it from a guy that spent 6 years behind the doors at Apple – I am a firm believer of harnessing all the capabilities of a superior piece of software/hardware. Unlike Erin though, I have a good handful of apps that I use from the Cydia and Rock application repositories; all centered around productivity, social interaction, and business task management. I’ll do some more reviews and demos on this site shortly.

As far as Facebook Chat goes – I don’t use it, don’t like it, and prefer to use apps like Fring and IM+ for my iPhone chatting needs.

Curl Up With a Good Book on Sony Reader

One of my presents under the Christmas tree from my husband was a new Sony Reader Pocket Edition.

Quite honestly, I hadn’t paid much attention to the whole e-book phenomenon and had never heard of the Sony Reader or the Kindle. I love to read have always been happy with a good paper back. My Sony Reader experience started with reading the easy directions and getting the software set up on my Mac.

Once I created my Reader Library and started browsing the e-bookstore, I purchased two books. Each book was around $10 and one of them was a new release only available on hardback, so the $10 was quite a savings. I was pleasantly surprised when I climbed in bed and curled up with my Sony Reader. I was instantly hooked! Scrolling through pages was simple and the screen display is crisp and clear with no glare.

Ergonomically, it feels great in your hands and is incredibly comfortable. I’m especially excited about the compactness and convenience as I travel quite a bit.

Overall, I am very impressed with the Sony Reader and think it is a great, user friendly product.

Introducing: The Google Nexus One

Google revealed the Nexus One today. They’re not calling it an “iPhone Killer” but instead referring to the device as a “Superphone” and stating that, “…the message isn’t to the iPhone, it’s to consumers. Choice is a really good thing.”

Many of the early leaks and predictions have come to reality at the phone is shipping today. What’s interesting is that there is actually a substantially subsidized model offered through T-Mobile ($179 vs. the unlocked price of $529). As of this moment, T-Mobile is the only available subsidized carrier, Verizon and Vodafone are coming on board in the Spring.

Note: for those that buy the unlocked unit you can still run it on AT&T, but due to frequency differences, it’ll only run at EDGE speeds and NOT 3G.

My opinion: I think this announcement and device is good for consumers in the fact that it gives choice. I like the fact that the OS will be available via open source to allow developers to build and enhance the experience for those that matter…again the consumer. The term used “superphone” is not something that I think will stick as, similar to what Stacey Higginbotham says in her recent article [here], this device doesn’t necessarily cause a massive disruption in the industry (as the iPhone did).

That being said, let us know when you get one and let us know your opinion.
