To mark the milestone, the team at Foursquare has put together an animated data visualization plotting a week’s worth of check-ins across a map of the world.

Across the top of the map, you can see how the check-ins break down by category and region. The animation shows people checking into restaurants, entertainment venues, outdoor spots and more all across the globe.

East Coast, Europe and Asia seem to have the higher concentration of active users. Come on West Coast let’s get to checking in!! That being said you can follow me on Foursquare at user jameshicks.

A new version of TweetDeck just hit the streets folks and it’s a game changer.

Updating Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIN are incredible achievements in and of themselves. But now add Foursquare, Google Buzz and scheduled updates – well now you’ve got the market covered.

A high-level listing of the new features includes:

Google Buzz and Foursquare updates

Ability to check-in with Foursquare

View YouTube videos within the TweetDeck client and record and share videos using TwitVid

Scheduled updates (status updates and Foursquare check-ins)

Global filtering of tweets within your stream (helps reduce overall “information clutter”)

Add networks that use a compatible Twitter API (WordPress, Tumblr, etc.)

According to ReadWriteWeb the Buzz integration lets users send updates to Buzz, view posts, like and comment on friends’ posts directly from a stand-alone buzz column found within the application. Users can also expand and collapse comments from within their column based system.

With Foursquare users can add their account to a column in TweetDeck and then view friends’ location-based updates and use embeddable Google Map capabilities to visualize friends locations.

If you want to geo-tag your posts that option has also been integrated for Tweets, Buzz and Foursquare updates.

Here are videos showing that new functionality

Schedule Updates

As of this post I have been able to update the Desktop client on Windows (haven’t tried my Mac yet). FYI, this new functionality is not yet available in the iPad and iPhone versions, but I’d expect that to be forthcoming soon.

Colors, icons, and menu layouts have been completely redone and, from what we can tell from the screenshots, now they actually are more user friendly.

Along with a new look, there is some new functionality as well. Users have a profile screen that contains checkin History and Friends tabs that is accessibly directly from the apps menu.

What I’m going to like, of the new reported features is the Friends Info page that has also be completely redesigned and makes friend-by-friend pinging more visually appealing.

We’ll let you know when it hits the app store.
