Career Recruiting Goes Viral with Ongig

Are you looking for a job? Here’s a better question – are you looking for a career with a smart/forward thinking organization?

Yeah, that’s a pretty loaded question because obviously, if you find yourself in the job search market, you’re going to want to go with the latter and find an organization that has some positive momentum behind them.

Could be, but there’s still something missing – there’s no connection between you, the candidate and the organization you’re looking to work with.

Enter Ongig – a small startup with a big mission: to re-invent job postings, and provide transparency to the online job experience.

How

Ongig, based in San Francisco, California started out as the Talent Heroes Project back in June 2011. They provide a platform that allows job seekers to review, and apply to entry,mid-career and senior management positions. The twist is that you see and hear from the hiring manager or HR rep directly through a short video as they describe the position, the team culture and those much coveted perks of the job.

Why

You’d think with CareerBuilder, LinkedIN, Monster,Craigslist, and the whole host of other job boards out there that the market was already saturated for candidate recruitment. In a great post by Ongig Co-Founder and CEO, Rob Kelly, he points out the top 7 reasons hiring is being reinvented, and, in my opinion, why it HAS to be reinvented…

  1. A Hire Is A Million Dollar Transaction
  2. Hiring Managers Need To Show Themselves
  3. The Power Is Shifting From The Organization To The Individual
  4. Video & Pictures Are Ubiquitous
  5. Job Opportunities Will Become Alive
  6. We Are All Now One Click Away From Each Other
  7. Third-Party Recruiters Will Go The Way Of Other Middlemen

I highly recommend you read Rob’s post on the Ongig blog to get further context on these 7 reasons.

I’ve become so impressed with the business model and vision of Ongig that we’ll be embedding a new recruitment offering directly below EACH post on THE Tech Scoop.

So if you find yourself in the market or just want to see how job recruiting in today’s Socially Aware InterWeb should be done, follow Ongig on their blog, Twitter and Facebook.
