Mashable has reported and seen some screenshots of the forthcoming new release of Foursquare for the iPhone.

Version 1.6 is slated to hit the App Store next week with some significant UI updates. Colors, icons, and menu layouts have been completely redone and, from what we can tell from the screenshots, now they actually are more user friendly.

Along with a new look, there is some new functionality as well. Users have a profile screen that contains checkin History and Friends tabs that is accessibly directly from the apps menu.

What I’m going to like, of the new reported features is the Friends Info page that has also be completely redesigned and makes friend-by-friend pinging more visually appealing.

We’ll let you know when it hits the app store.
