Count ‘em…10.5 million + blogs running on WordPress.com are now in real time.

Thanks to PubSubHubbub, an open protocol for distributed publish/subscribe communication on the net…all WordPress.com content will appear in services like Google Reader, Bloglines, Friendfeed and Netvibes in real time.

Those of us that have self-hosted sites can also join in this fun by downloading and installing the official plugin to enable PuSH support [here].

The main purpose is to provide near-instant notifications of change updates, which would improve on the typical situation where a client periodically polls the feed server at some arbitrary interval.

I’ll be integrating the plugin on all HicksNewMedia blogs today – let me know your experience.
